Organizing for Power
The PMA’s activities are currently organized according to the following working groups:
Inductive Power | This committee is responsible for creating the Power 2.0 suite of standards. This working group has already developed two specifications for smartphones: The first defines the physical and logical interfaces of an insertable wireless charging card (WiCC). The second specifies the PMA protocol, enabling any compliant-device to charge at select Starbucks locations, Madison Square Gardens, Jay-Z’s 40/40 club, at select Delta Lounges and on the wireless power products sold by major retail chains. |
Sustainability | Ascertaining that the principles of energy efficiency are properly preached throughout the entire Power 2.0 ecosystem is basic to its successful proliferation. This group is responsible for promoting energy-efficient products and policies, as well as educating home and commercial users on making wise, energy efficient choices. |
Regulatory | This cluster collaborates with regulatory and governmental bodies such as the EPA, and Energy Star in facilitating a unified approach to building Power 2.0. |
Certification and Compliance | Maintaining consistency and reliability are the hallmark of any standards body. This PMA workgroup ensures that products bearing the PMA mark of interoperability are tested and fully comply with the specifications as set forth by the PMA. |
Marketing | Getting the word out through multiple channels is mission-critical to the PMA. This group promotes PMA specifications and the organization’s role in advancing Power 2.0. Moreover, it serves the member companies through numerous value-added opportunities, including brand management, event marketing, public relations, marketing communications, social media, alliance growth, and co-marketing. |
